Empire Wiki · Vol. 01 · Sunday, August 16, 2026 · Newland, North Carolina

The whole empire,
indexed on one page.

One entry per surface, one line per purpose, one URL per click. 143 sites — built across seven waves since 2022, fanned out across hobby, business, infrastructure, and craft. The wiki is the canonical map. Once you can find a site, you can read it, link it, fix it, and ship a new one alongside it.

Provenance

How the catalogue came to be — the four waves that produced 143 surfaces, and what the wiki itself is for.

The shape of the catalogue

The empire began as one FastAPI on a Windows box in 2022. By August 2026 it had grown into 143 static sites, 60 services, 68 cron jobs, 484 skills, and a public mirror on Cloudflare Pages. Wave 11 added 50 hobby sites in a single afternoon; Wave 12 added three meta-layer tools (this wiki, Empire Compass, Empire Bookshelf) and three more hobby sites.

The wiki is the canonical map. Every other site — hobby, dashboard, service, doc — cross-links back here. The wiki is also the single source of truth for which sites exist, what they do, and where they live. When a new site ships, its row lands here.

What the wiki is not

The wiki is not a card-grid. It is not a launchpad. It is not a content engine. The wiki is a table of contents with provenance — every entry tells you what a site is, where it lives, and when it shipped. Use it to find a surface; use Empire Compass to search it; use Empire Atlas to probe whether it is alive.

Three lenses reframe the same 143 surfaces: All Sites shows everything flat; Hobby groups the 53 craft + culture + nature + heritage sites; Services shows the 25 live FastAPI surfaces. The rail is the navigation; the canvas is the catalogue.

  • Wave 1 — Hobby Recon. The first 25 hobby surfaces (hiking, mushrooms, astronomy, foraging, crystals, minerals, brewing, radio, water-falls, etc.) seeded the editorial ledger style.
  • Wave 11 — Constructive Discovery. 50 new hobby sites in one afternoon. Schools, water-falls, pod-casts, fish-ing, mycology, wood-working, lute-rie, climb-ing, bee-keeping, breweries, ghost-towns, dark-sky, rail-roads, weather, local-history, pottery, wool, music, willow, canoe, hymn, fire-tower, wild-flowers, old-growth, wise, stone-mason, mountain-biking, zombies, castle, dance, letter-press, vine, espresso, trail, grocery, spring, gene-alogy, nursery, cob, telescope, pipe, soap, apple, corvette, radio-ham, black-smith, chevy-engine, water-falls-extra, tarot, sour-dough, yarn, water-color, leather, banjo.
  • Wave 12 — Meta Layer. Empire Wiki (this page), Empire Compass (search), Empire Bookshelf (visual catalogue), Empire Annual (retrospective). Plus three more hobby sites (tea, gem, fern).
  • Wave 13 — Pending. Hook Empire Truth Registry into the hub's /api/sites so the wiki's "live" badges reflect actual probe state, not claimed state.
The empire is not a dashboard. The empire is a reading list. Each site is a chapter; the wiki is the table of contents. — Wave 11 reflection, 2026-08-16 20:25 UTC

How to use this catalogue

Three lenses, two modes, one search bar. The wiki is the table of contents.

Browsing

Click any row to open the detail drawer. The drawer shows the host, the description, the port (if local), the public URL (if deployed), and the category. Click the host to open the site; click the public URL to open the Cloudflare Pages mirror.

The left rail collapses to a single column on mobile. The catalogue scrolls vertically. The drawer slides in from the right. There are no nested pages.

Searching

The search bar at the top filters the catalogue by hostname, description, or tag. Type mushroom to find mushrooms + mycology. Type brew to find breweries + brewing. Type wave 11 to find the Sunday-afternoon batch.

Search is debounced 120 ms. The rail counts update in real time. The drawer does not auto-open during search — you still click the row you want.

Filtering by lens

The rail groups the catalogue into 14 lenses: All, Lenses, Sites, Services, Cron, Skills, Docs, Biz, Infra, plus Hobby / Craft / Food / Culture / Nature / Heritage. The Hobby / X sub-lenses re-frame the same 53 hobby sites five different ways.

Adding a new site

Build the site. Ship the index.html. Drop the row into this file. The wiki is a single static HTML — there is no CMS, no build step, no deployment pipeline. Edit, save, refresh.

The wiki is not a launchpad. The wiki is a reading list. Read it once. Read it twice. Then ship a new row. — Editorial ledger, vol. 01
